Frequently asked questions
Can I undo a rename if the result isn't right?
Yes. After renaming a batch, the “Undo last batch” button restores every file to its original name, in reverse order. As long as you haven't closed the app or started a new batch, undo stays available.
What happens if two files end up with the same new name?
SeventyRename blocks it: the row shows in red in the preview and the Rename button stays disabled until the conflict is resolved, whether it's a duplicate within the batch or a file already on disk. The app never overwrites anything without you noticing.
Can the file extension change during renaming?
No, the extension (.jpg, .pdf, .mov...) is always kept. The prefix, suffix and numbering apply before it; only the “all lowercase” option touches the extension, lowercasing it along with the rest of the name.
Can I drop folders, not just files?
Yes. A dropped folder is renamed as a single item, exactly like a file: its contents are never opened or renamed inside.
What's the difference between the website version and the App Store one?
